  • Correction...

Hi to everybody...seems Captain Autumn is right in correcting my last post...here's the real meaning and how it came to be misinterpreted...
Word History: A widely-held belief has it that the word kangaroo comes from an Australian Aboriginal word meaning "I don't know." This is in fact untrue. The word was first recorded in 1770 by Captain James Cook, when he landed to make repairs along the northeast coast of Australia. In 1820, one Captain Phillip K. King recorded a different word for the animal, written "mee-nuah." As a result, it was assumed that Captain Cook had been mistaken, and the myth grew up that what he had heard was a word meaning "I don't know" (presumably as the answer to a question in English that had not been understood). Recent linguistic fieldwork, however, has confirmed the existence of a word gangurru in the northeast Aboriginal language of Guugu Yimidhirr, referring to a species of kangaroo. What Captain King heard may have been their word minha, meaning "edible animal."
Shame, I liked the myth better...HLOL...I'm surprised the prog I watched didn't check that out before putting it out as fact...the guy doing is normally pretty good but this is a bit of a slip up...bet many people watching it are going around now believing Kangaroo means 'I dunno'...:)
    Great big hugs...

  • Wednesday midday

Hi to everybody...had a bit of a disturbed night...would you believe I couldn't get out of my head those darned UPS emails with Trojan Horse attachments out of my head!! I received about 8 or 9 yesterday and, after my virus checker put them in the Vault, I emptied it and then wondered whether that was a mistake...just couldn't stop thinking about it...hmmm...that's bad when damned viruses stop you sleeping...LOL...hubby brought me a cup of tea at 5.50 when he came in from work and then I went back to sleep again because I'd been half awake since 4 and slept through to 10 to wake up to another glorious day of clear blue skies and sunshine...bit blowy but not a cold wind, thank goodness...
Have been round for the paper and now just reading through your posts and checking out my mail...:) Hope you have a good day, are having lots of sunshine and send great big hugs to one and all...

  • Just learned something

Hi to everybody...just watched a bit of the prog on BBC4 on Cook's voyage to Australia...when he discovered and named Botany Bay, he saw some animals and asked the indigenous people of the area what they were called, they answered in their language 'I dunno'. Cook heard their answer and the animal was called a Kangaroo from then on which literally means...'I dunno' but he didn't know at the time that's what their answer had been...HLOL...
    Great big hugs...XXX

  • Tuesday

Hi to everybody...woke up after good night's sleep to sun...real summer sun today and no cold wind either...gorgeous...had breakfast then walked round to the Range and got our money refunded for the too thin carpet we bought at the weekend. We went on to TKMax after that where I bought a second pair of the trousers I bought a few weeks ago for a pound less so didn't save much, but they're so comfortable around my waist I decided it was worth it...:) It's always a problem for me wearing any trousers or skirts...I'm only 12 to 14 in size but because of my back, I've no waist at all...I go straight from hips to rib cage and that makes either of these items really difficult to find ones that sit comfortable round my midriff...a pound or two extra in weight and I can't wear them...these have give in them so perfect for me...
Back home now and hubby's hoovering the hallway then it's lunch time and he'll sleep this afternoon as he's back to work to tonight...it's so lovely having real sun again...let's hope it lasts for the rest of the summer...:)
Hope you are all having the same lovely day...and will have a good day...great big hugs to you all in the meantime....

  • Ooh, maybe

Hi to everybody...heard the weather forecast for the week ahead and we were told that on Thursday the weather was going to change to really hot...as high as 30 degrees!!! Is our summer about to begin? I really, really hope so...:)
    Great big hugs...XXX

  • Monday

Hi to everybody...woke up after a good night to a beautiful morning...hurried out of bed to make the call to the rug company and discovered it was on a leave a message call...how I loathe those things...but left a message and my number then had breakfast. I'd only just finished it when the company rang back and told me that it wasn't a problem at all to change my bathroom runner from purple to sage and then told me that my hallway runner would be made for me as soon as they receive the order!! I said 'made for me' and she said that's right, they weave them individually...when I'd picked myself up off the floor I said 'in that case, can you make it a bit longer because I was really looking for 60 x 250 instead of 243, and she said I'll see what I can do...I'll ask them then if they can, they will and you'll get the bigger one and if they can't, you'll get the size you ordered...Now that's what I call service...and I'm so relieved after being ripped off to the sum of £70 by that darned software company that's now disappeared with an awful lot of people's money...hmmm...
So, my lovely friends, good start to the week...off to see 'Wall-E' this afternoon and it's washday now so have a good day, hope you have some sun and great big hugs to one and all...

  • Senility

Hi to everybody...I'm going bloody senile...I've just ordered on the net a runner for the new hallway because the tiles are hard for me to walk on...and alongside it to avoid a £12 delivery charge a luxury bathroom runner in sage green to put the price up to free delivery, and instead of pressing sage, I've pressed bloody purple!!! And I didn't notice nor did hubby when I accepted the order...what an idiot!! Now I've got to try and change it before they send off this wrong order...
Senility is definitely setting it....great big hugs to you all from a brain now in decline...

  • Sunday

Hi to everybody....had a good night and woke up to sun and summer clouds and a warm wind, thank goodness..it's been the chill in the wind that's ruined so many July days this year...walked round for the paper after Sunday massage for hubby and then onto the Range to see if I could get a runner for the tiled hallway...still finding it a bit jarring on my back...did find one that will go under the door but it's so thin it doesn't make that much difference...will probably take it back...and give up after that because very hard to find.
Don't think we're doing anything exciting today, just pottering...so have a lovely Sunday and hope you have some sun, and send you great big hugs...

  • Music I love

Hi to everybody...here's a taste of what I listen to for an energy buzz without drugs...HLOL...Zappa and Beefheart with Willie the Pimp...two of my all time favourite musicians and singers...the last one I found when looking for a Tom Waits song and decided to put that up instead because I liked it for its energy and the video...they're called After Midnight Project and the video is of a game called Prey....the first one is over nine minutes long and is Zappa at his best as a guitarist...and Beefheart with a short burst of song. The second is also Zappa and Beefheart again in a rare full version of the song of Orange Claw Hammer

Hope you like them...great big hugs....XXX
