Music I love

Hi to everybody...here's a taste of what I listen to for an energy buzz without drugs...HLOL...Zappa and Beefheart with Willie the Pimp...two of my all time favourite musicians and singers...the last one I found when looking for a Tom Waits song and decided to put that up instead because I liked it for its energy and the video...they're called After Midnight Project and the video is of a game called Prey....the first one is over nine minutes long and is Zappa at his best as a guitarist...and Beefheart with a short burst of song. The second is also Zappa and Beefheart again in a rare full version of the song of Orange Claw Hammer

Zappa and Beefheart are amongst my favourite musicians too. My recent Desert Island Discs almost featured tracks by both. In the case of Zappa, the track was Whipping Post (actually an Allman Brothers song) and for Beefheart it was "Bat Chain Puller". Both are at the absolute pinnacle of rock music.

  Oh, great...so glad you like them both...saw Zappa live and it was a fantastic concert and had tickets for the one banned at the Albert Hall and he came and spoke to us...I mean he actually came over to me and my friends and talked with us...that was very memorable!! LOL...Beefheart's last tour of Britain we had tickets for it and we got bloody chicken pox off the kids on the day we were due to go...we were gutted!!...covered head to foot in spots...big screams at that memory...HLOL...Have a lot of Beefheart here and some Zappa...most is on tapes though which I can't play anymore...I met my hubby because of Beefheart...I heard him on a friend's record player and loved him straight away and went into the record shop that my hubby worked in and the rest is history... Great big hugs...XX

    I am insanely jealous of that, especially since you actually talked to him. The man was simply astonishing. In the last year of his painful existence, he recorded enough material for 50 albums!
    
    Beefheart too will always have a place in my heart. When I was into pretty much nothing but Heavy Metal about 30 years ago, I heard his song Electricity. It had the same energy and excitement as all the music I loved, but on top a certain indefinable, rare and unique quality. I quickly gained a couple of albums by him.
    
    Shiny Beast remains one of my favourite albums ever.

      Ray bought me some cds of Beefheart recently....I've got the Mirror Man sessions, which is one of my favourites, Trout Mask Replica, Safe as Milk and my very first one...Strictly Personal...absolutely brilliant musically...the intricacy of his music is amazing...tunes played on top of each other which should jar but don't...and Zappa's music I've loved most of my life...LOL...and he's got gorgeous eyes...really warm and I found him dead sexy too... Shiny Beasts I can't remember whether I've heard that one...will have to check it out...I thought nobody was going to bother with my offerings this time, but glad I found another fan out there...off to bed now...great big hugs...XXX night night....

        The multiple rhythms in Beefheart's music are sensationally well done, and are a product of his strong compositional skills and the great skill of his band. And what an amazing voice he has, echoing both Howling Wolf and Lightning Hopkins:

        Tom, I'm going to make you absolutely green now for a second time...Ray's met and chatted with Beefheart before he met me...he and a couple of friends were queuing for an all night concert he was giving in London and the queue was so long it went right round the building and the time was getting so late that Ray and his friends gave up and walked around the corner arrived at the backstage door just in time to see all the band arriving and then Beefheart steps out and sees them and comes over and has a chat with them..they explain that they can't get in so he gives them a box of 200 Marlborough cigarettes to share between them and off he goes...LOL...later on, Ray got to see him at the Tide Barn a week later in Ruislip...now I'm jealous of him...HLOL...!! Haven't checked out the video yet...am about to do so...just booked tickets to see Leonard Cohen in Bournemouth on 18th November... Ray reminded me why he's doing so many and it's because his manager stole most of his money and he's broke...don't mind paying £65 each ticket after he reminded me of that....GBHs....XX

        I'm sure you'll have a great time seeing Cohen. £65 is a lot for a concert, but if it's someone you love it's well worth it.
        
        And yes: I'm jealous of Ray having met Don :-)

        Checked the video and yes, love Howling Wolf...another guy we listened to a lot...love that gravel voice.... and Lightning as well both very familiar names to us...GBHs

Frank Zappa! It must have been a half lifetime since I used to listen to him. He was great, wasn't he?
